Sts. Cosmas & Damian

Sts. Cosmas & Damian

Sts. Cosmas & Damian

Feastday: September 26
Patron of Druggist

Sts. Cosmas and Damian were brothers, born in Arabia, who had become eminent for their skill in the science of medicine. Being Christians, they were filled with the spirit of charity and never took money for their services. At Egaea in Cilicia, where they lived, they enjoyed the highest esteem of the people. When the persecution under Diocletian broke out, their very prominence rendered them marked objects of persecution. Being apprehended by order of Lysias, governor of Cilicia, they underwent various torments about the year 283. Their feast day is September 26th. They are patron saints of pharmacists.

My younger brother was born with his knees facing each other inwards. His legs were not straight and as he grew older his knees turned more and more inwards. My parents took him
to different doctors and they all adviced to operate. However, they could not guarantee that he would walk straight and the operation would be successful. In other words there was a good chance that he would remain crippled at worst or not walk straight at best.
Lucky for us we were in Italy at that time and someone told us to go to this little town of Modugno in the Puglie region where there was a cathedral of the Santi Medici St Cosmo and Damiano.
My grandmother and my mother went to this cathedral and the priest gave them some Holy
Oil sanctified by the Santi Medici Cosmo and Damiano.

Every morning and every night my mother would rub this Holy Oil on my brother's legs and she would pray to God with all her heart and faith. Invoking Santi Medici to heal my brother
    and straighten his legs.
At that time my brother was 5 years old. Little by little his legs straighted out and by the
time he was a bit older, they were as straight as pins. My brother grew up straight and
never limped. His knees actually straightned by themselves without any operation or
braces. Praise be the Lord and these Holy Saints.

Just the other day I was looking at some pictures of my brother before his knees were straightned at the age of 5, and I could not believe the miracle that I witnessed 50 some odd
    years ago.

I give thanks to God and the Santi Medici, Cosmo and Damiano for this miracle that saved my
my brother. I feel privileged to have witnessed Their intervention.

    God Bless

Saints Cosmas and Damian, I wish you to be to model of Christian doctors, who can administer to the sick and suffering without profit as their motive. Please pray for all the sick and suffering who have no means of getting the medical attention, care and medicines that they need. Guard and guide doctors, inspire them to follow your holy example. St. Cosmas and Damian find a permanent and miraculous cure for all children who are born with fragile X. Free them from all bodily and mental torment. Give them the gift of fluent speech. I'd love to see them "catch up" in all areas of developmental delays so that these lovely children can be mainstreamed and one day, be able to achieve the living skills that are needed for leading independent and productive lives. I ask all these petitions with me very being, and with every breath I take. Grant complete healing, in Jesus name. Amen.

    The Godspel of Matthew
    Chapter 5 Amen
4 Blessed are the gentle: they shall have the earth as inheritance.
5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shall be comforted.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shall have their fill.
7 Blessed are the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shall be recognised as children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you falsely on my account.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophets before you.
    Amen!
