I read a story on St. Beovon"Bobo" when i was in CCD, and the story i read does not say he died on a pilgrimage. It says a town of innocent people were going to get invaded, he was the only warrior/knight in this town at the time. He helped the people escape, by standing alone agaisnt a army. He fought long enough for the people to escape to safety, in the end he was killed. There wasnt alot of detail but enough to be worthy of a Saint
