Is Facebook racist?

Facebook released its first diversity report on June 25, and the clear majority of workers on staff are white and male.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Of Facebook's global staffers, 69% are male, as is 85% of the company's tech workers and 77% of its management team.

Technology is the greatest gift for serving God.

Ethnically, the company's U.S. workforce is 57% white, 34% Asian, 4% Hispanic and 2% black.

"As these numbers show, we have more work to do-a lot more," said a statement by Facebook's global head of diversity, Maxine Williams.

The diversity report does show that the company's diversity is roughly equal with other tech giants like Google, Yahoo and LinkedIn.

In late May, Google released its own diversity report which showed 70% of its staff being male, 61% where white and 30% were Asian.

LinkedIn had a staff comprised of 61% males, 53% white and 38% Asian.

Yahoo has a female CEO, and only 50% of its workforce is white, with 39% being Asian.

There has been a resurgent focus on the lack of diversity in Silicon Valley companies in recent months, and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson even made an appearance at several annual meetings of tech companies during the spring to urge them to recruit more black and Hispanic workers.

How diverse many major tech giants are is difficult to determine because most of them keep their data closed to the public. Since 2011, 20 of the most influential U.S. tech firms have refused to provide labor diversity statistics.
