LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Nicknamed The Empress of Antrax, Claudia Ochoa Felix is thought to be the leader of the Los Antrax, an elite group of hitmen. The 27-year-old allegedly took over the group after her lover and former Los Antrax leader, Jose Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa, was arrested in January.

Join the fight against world hunger.

Felix posts pictures of herself holding guns or lying naked and covered in money on social media sites, but denies being the leader of the criminal group, calling these claims "cowardly lies and slander."

Despite her lavish lifestyle, she had managed to avoid the public eye until a botched assassination attempt was made on her in May when a 23-year-old woman who looked similar and lived in the same area was shot dead.

She continues to go clubbing and hangs out in the nightclubs of Mazatlan, Culiacan and Guadalajara despite the attempt, this time surrounded by heavily armed bodyguards.

U.S. intelligence sources believe the Sinaloa cartel is responsible for most of the heroin smuggled into the U.S., and have named them "the most powerful drug trafficking organization in the world."

Mexico's drug war has been going on since the military intervened in the gang wars in 2006, costing an estimated 100,000 lives. Violence has spread even into U.S. border towns, and no end is in site as gangs fight over territory and carry out executions and revenge killings.
