1. Refrigerator
Overstuffing the refrigerator is a bad idea - it constricts the air flow, which will lead to more energy consumption just to keep cool inside.
Doors should always be kept closed and tight in order to prevent the cool air from escaping. The experts suggest you test the gasket by sticking a piece of paper in the door before closing it; if the paper falls down, it is not as tight as it should be. Coil should also be brushed and vacuumed at least once a year to prevent the refrigerator from overheating because of dust.
2. Dishwasher
By regularly cleaning the gasket, a dishwasher could run much longer than expected. Always make sure that food is removed after the dishes have been thoroughly cleaned. Clogs prohibits water flow to the dishes, causing the dishwasher to use more force, shortening its lifespan.
"Much of the energy used by your dishwasher goes toward heating the water. So before you do a load, run the water at the sink until it gets hot. That saves the dishwasher work, and it'll last longer," said Celia Lehrman, editor of the Consumer Reports, who supplied all the tips, as cited from The Blaze.
3. Stove and Oven Range
To maintain its full working capacity, always clean off the debris and dusts sticking on burner ports.
The experts recommend using a paper clip or pipe cleaner to poke out the unnecessary elements stuck to the appliance. Just make sure that it is turned off or unplugged before doing so.
4. Washer and Dryer
Never overload despite the urge to finish the laundry in one load. Forcing the machine to work with such a heavy amount will likely lead to the dysfunction of the motor and transmission, which will cause you to buy another appliance to replace your now broken one.
Make sure the lint filter is also clean every time you dry the laundry. Try using the auto-dry setting to save energy costs.
Always keep in mind you should keep everything clean and don't overdo or overwork any appliance. Before cleaning or checking them, make sure they are not running or plugged in to prevent the risk of fire and other accidents.
