LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Engadget, virtual reality is an opportunity to fully engage an audience in a film like never before.
Producers and directors are moving toward the virtual tech to turn the film industry upside-down.
As companies compete to get their virtual reality films off the ground, "The Story of Christ" has come out on top and will be available December this year.
The Washington Post reported the film would be viewable on VR systems such as PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear and more.
The film will be available in 360 degrees and will feature 4K resolution.
"The Story of Christ" covers the Savior's life from the time he was baptized to his resurrection.
Directors are used to panning across certain scenes, providing close-ups and focusing on certain objects - but none of those tactics work seamlessly in virtual reality.
Art director Robert Stromberg explained: "I think that's going to be the definition of how you tell a story: Are you an observer, or are you a participant?"
"The Story of Christ" director David Hansen explained the viewer will be entirely immersed in the film.
"The viewers truly feel they are there with Jesus and his disciples," Hansen said. "This is the most powerful story of all time and virtual reality is the perfect way to tell it."
