World Cup in Brazil supports clean living, sportsmanship - and prostitutes?
Legal prostitutes now studying up on English in anticipation of athletic event
With the World Cup Soccer Championship gearing up to take Brazil by storm in 2014, preparations are underway at the 62,000-seat Mineirao Stadium in the southeastern city of Belo Horizonte. The city will host three matches of the Confederations Cup and six games of the World Cup. The championships will stress clean living, good sportsmanship - and prostitutes.
The worldwide scourge of prostitution is illustrative of life in a capitalist society: As long as men are willing to pay for them, the prostitute will never go away .
President of the Association of Prostitutes in the city of Belo Horizonte, Cida Vieira has said 20 women have already signed up for the courses.
Vieira expects at least 300 of the group's 4,000 members to follow suit. The association is seeking volunteer teachers as it organizes the English language classes.
"I don't think we will have problems persuading English teachers to provide services for free," she says. "We already have several volunteer psychologists and doctors helping us."
She says that classes are expected to begin in March and last up to eight months.
"It will be important for the girls who will be able to use English to let their clients know what they are charging .
"And for the same reasons we are also thinking of offering free French and Italian classes," she adds.
It's disheartening to think that many of these prostitutes will be working with many of the international athletes who will be coming to Brazil. Athletes typically stress ethical behavior and fair play.

I'm not sure the link to capitalist society is necessary here; prostitution and human trafficking are common place evils in many countries around the world, not all of which are "capitalist." Wherever sin and evil is allowed to flourish, regardless of economic society, Satan will find a foothold.
