Katie Holmes flees Scientology and her husband Tom Cruise. Registers at Catholic parish
Church of St. Francis Xavier excited to welcome Holmes to fold
Fleeing her marriage with movie star Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has relocated to New York City - and rejecting Cruise's Scientology, has registered with the Church of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Fleeing her marriage with movie star Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has relocated to New York City - and rejecting Cruise's Scientology, she has registered with St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
"She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms.'
The Church of St. Francis Xavier, which dates back to 1847, "strives to be a prophetic, welcoming community, inclusive witness to the presence of Christ Jesus in our midst," according to its mission statement.
Holmes' decision to register with the church is seen as a way of distancing herself from Scientology.
Holmes is believed to have sole custody of the six-year-old daughter she had with Cruise, Suri. It's believed that the girl will now be raised in her mother's faith.
Katie is reportedly so adamant that Suri won't have anything to do with Scientology that she insisted on an "ironclad" clause in her divorce settlement from Tom to prevent her daughter from even attending parties, if they have any link to Scientology.
Suri is also forbidden to attend any of the organization's churches or centers. The settlement allegedly stipulates that Suri isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology-related, and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc.
Tom is reportedly "still reeling" from Katie's decision to leave him. It is reported in some sources he was surprised by the clandestine way in which she approached the split.
Katie ensured that every aspect of her decision to leave was kept a secret from Cruise by using disposable mobile phones, and moving into a new apartment in New York in order to guarantee that Tom would not have an opportunity to stop the process.
"She knew she had to have everything locked down before she pulled the trigger, because there could be no wiggle room if she didn't want this to turn into a long, drawn-out battle," an unidentified source told People magazine.
"Tom was a happy man and thought he had a happy life. He keeps asking, 'What's happening?'"

I am glad Ms. Holmes has decided to return to the Church, and I would imagine that she will raise her daughter Roman Catholic. This is great news! She has decided to follow the path to Jesus Christ, and teach her child about the Faith. Welcome home! I am so glad for her.
So Obama the 4th person of the Blessed Trinity offers Sterilization from my money to all women now. Why not sterilize the other 50% called males. Any of them who are not accepting their responsibility for their part gets sterilized. Obama has truly become a disgusting person in his arrogance.
I agree with Kathy in being sad about the very nature of divorce. I'm happy that Katie and her daughter are in a Catholic Church, but I thought that I had read somewhere that the parish they joined was openly supportive of same sex marriage.
Now I know the nature of the internet so I could be COMPLETELY WRONG, but does anyone know anything about this?
As a Roman Catholic who works for a law firm that has seen its share of divorces, child custody disputes and paternity suits, I can only shake my head in disgust at Catholics who bemoan abortion kililng children but are just fine with divorce if it means "coming home to the Church". Suri needs a dad not just a parish pastor at an "inclusive" parish. St. Paul was careful not to encourage the Christian spouse to leave or betray his/her non-Christian spouse but rather to pray for them.
I am not saying Scientology is not kooky or heretical. God knows we have enough of those types of parish communities in our midst. But, please remember that between the out-of-wedlock births that now total 4 in 10 and our no fault divorce rate there are many more children than the aborted ones who are suffering. God help our fatherless nation.
I have nine kids. I have survived a lot of the "medical complications" that people use as justification for abortion. i have also survived a lot of the wicked life circumstances used as justification for abortion. The truth is, it's not hard to find a "serious" excuse when we want one. In fact, it's very easy. Generally speaking, doctors are reliable enablers.
Nicole Kidman, did the same thing..they left Tom Cruse and went back to the Catholic church. Although I am not for divorce, I am glad that Katie has gotten away from Scientology, and hope that she and Suri will be happy. Welcome home Katie!
